Handball Euro 2010 Overhead Remote
70-200mm for the Close-Up View

The Handball Euro 2010 preliminary round in Linz is over. A great week with three stunning games of the Austrian Handball team passed by. I shot overhead with three remote cameras. Beside a 70-200mm close up view of the goal and wide angle view of the goal area I used a 24mm tilt/shift lens on a 1Ds for a general view of the arena.

During the last days I had to edit 75 gigs of data from six cameras. Here’s what I got from DEN v AUT, AUT v ISL and AUT v SRB!

Insights: Handball Euro 2010 Test

Thursday, November 5th, 2009

Team Austrian will play the preliminary round during the Handball Euro 2010 here in Linz. I had the chance to test a couple of things during the pre-tournament last weekend. Here’s a little backstage story with insights, facts and figures.

1. Packing Gear
Insights: Handball Euro Test
I packed 4 bodies, 10 lenses, 3 magic-arms, 4 pocket wizards, tape, cable, extra batteries and lost of small deer.

2. The Catwalk
Insights: Handball Euro Test
The catwalks at Intersport Arena are comfortable to work. Unfortunately the power outlets are far away. Therefore I had to run cables.

3. Setup & Safety
Insights: Handball Euro Test
I set up one camera for a wide-angle view of the goal area and another one for a close-up view of the goalie. For the cameras, lenses and magic arms I used two separate security cables to get all 100% safe!

4. Camera Position

Insights: Linz from above

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009

I had a lot of non-sport-assignments during the last days. Yesterday I finished my journey around Linz by shooting stuff in the heart of the city.

Insights: The Tunnel Remote

Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009

It’s time to prepare for the playoffs! The Austrian EBEL hockey season is nearly over. Only two regular season games are left. Therefore, I tested a new remote angle to capture the pregame action.

Call it the players’ tunnel remote. Hope this will work even better during the playoffs.

1. Location Check

Cable channels work well to mount a magic arm with a super clamp.

2. First Test

Players of the Black Wings stop by for some smalltalk prior to the warm-ups.

3. Adjusting

A dream came true! I finally got a picture with Gonzo (Black Wings mascot) and Klaus (Black Wings press spokesman).

Insights: Girls at Palais KV

Friday, November 7th, 2008

I’ve done some more stuff for a kind of beauty contest a paper runs once a week. We decided to shoot at Palais KV to get some glamorous images just ahead of this year’s ball season.

The Palais Kaufmänninscher Verein (Association for the Furtherance of Commerce) is the first address for elevated and big events of all kind here in Linz. The historic house combines baroque atmosphere with modern conveniences and is a great photo location.

Insights: Euro 2008 - Editing Polaroids

Friday, June 6th, 2008

I decided to do some instant photography during the UEFA Euro 2008 Tournament. Polaroids aren’t state of the art but I love this kind of photographic medium to produce real unique originals.

My choice to capture the Polaroids is a Holga using various types of film (84, 87, 88, 89 and VIVA). Here’s a view to my desk at the Stadium Media Centre in Vienna:

I tried to get some stuff for a breakfast feature yesterday. Christian assisted me and we decided to try a high-angle shot using a ladder and ambient light.

Insights: Linz Marathon

Tuesday, April 15th, 2008

A lot of people asked for some details concerning my shooting position during the Linz Marathon. The main reason for this was that nobody knew any building from where I could have made the pictures.

Normally there’s no chance to get this perspective, and so I had to ask for help. Thanks a lot to the fire department of Linz for assisting me with their aerial mast.

Insights: Footie Netcam
